RIZAL, ZAMBOANGA DEL Norte. March 3, 2026โ Following the successful turnover of the Seaweed Nursery and Grow-out Project on January 30, 2026 in Calube, the Department of Agriculture โ Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) IX through the Fisheries Management Area Coordinating Unit (FCU) IX conducted another Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing and turnover ceremony for the Oyster Culture in Floating Bamboo Rafts under MARLIN SC 2.1 of the FishCoRe Project. The activity was held at the Community Fish Landing Center in Sebaca.
Gracing the event were BFAR 9 Regional Director Al-Zath K. Kunting and Rizal Municipal Mayor Marissa D. Manigsaca; Engr. Joel M. Laure, Municipal Agriculturist; Mr. Celieto Jarantilla, President of the Purok 6 Sebaca Fisherfolk Association together with association members; Ms. Arcelita A. Andaya, Provincial Fishery Officer; Ms. Merly Omandam, Barangay Chairperson of Sebaca; and Police Captain Charlotte M. Lapiz, Chief of Police of Rizal, Zamboanga del Norte.
In her message, Mayor Manigsaca expressed her gratitude for the projects implemented under the FishCoRe Project, emphasizing that these initiatives provide additional livelihood opportunities and help increase the income of fisherfolk in the municipalityโs coastal communities.
The turnover marks another milestone for the FishCoRe Project in strengthening the economic capacity of fisherfolk associations in Zamboanga del Norte, particularly the Purok 6 Sebaca Fisherfolk Association. With a project cost of โฑ1.2 million, the floating bamboo rafts for oyster culture follow a design intended to maximize growth and production across a 600-square-meter culture area, thereby increasing shellfish yield.
FCU 9 will continue to conduct regular monitoring activities to observe the growth of oyster spats and assess water quality parameters to ensure the projectโs sustainability and productivity.
