The Regional Project Implementing Unit 6 of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources – Philippines Fisheries and Coastal Resiliency (FishCoRe) Project convened its Technical Working Group (TWG) and FMA 6 member regions to work on the refinement of the draft Fisheries Management Plan (FMP) for the Greater Lizardfish (Saurida tumbil) in Alaminos City from February 9-11, 2026.
The FMP for Saurida tumbil is being crafted in order to ensure the sustainability of the fish species. Said FMP envisions a sustainable Saurida tumbil fishery in FMA 6, ensuring healthy stocks, thriving ecosystems, and equitable benefits through science-based management.
Members of the TWG came from various stakeholders such as the Pangasinan State University, President Ramon Magsaysay State University, Pangasinan Municipal and Provincial Local Government Units, Non-Government Organizations and the members of the technical working group from BFAR and the FishCoRe Project.
Mr. Neil Kenneth Catibog, BFAR Region III FMRED Chief and FishCoRe’s Alternate Focal Person shared that this meeting is in compliance with the Management Board’s directives for the Project to look more into the Harvest Control Rule and the Project’s accomplishment in relation to the development of the FMP for Saurida and look for ways on how to improve outputs to make it more comprehensive to the general public, for those that will be affected once the FMP comes in effect.
Staff from the Planning and Development Research Foundation presented various topics before the workshop started to help TWG in refining the existing draft of the FMP.//
