Tagaytay City — In a strategic move to enhance continuity and institutional memory across its initiatives, the Philippine Fisheries and Coastal Resiliency (FishCoRe) Project recently conducted a specialized Process Documentation Training on July 29 to 31, 2025 aimed at equipping project implementers with the tools and techniques for accurate, consistent, and efficient documentation.
The three-day training, held under the guidance of the Information and Fisherfolk Coordination Unit (IFCU) in partnership with the National Project Management Office (NPMO), was designed to establish clear documentation standards and promote best practices. These efforts are expected to generate foundational resources that not only support current activities but also serve as models for future FishCoRe initiatives.
Participants included specialists and staff from the NPMO, as well as project personnel from the Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) team, Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E), and the SUPRIM component of the Regional Project Implementing Units (RPIUs) and FMA Coordinating Units (FCUs).
The training commenced with an opening program featuring a welcome message from Regional Director Sammy Malvas of FCU 4A via Google Meet, followed by a video-recorded message of support from Ms. Mildred Buazon, Lead of the SUPRIM Component. Mr. Nazario Briguera delivered the rationale for the training.
Led by resource speakers, Mr. Briguera and Mr. Ronaldo Canabe, Knowledge Management Specialist of the FishCoRe Project, the training employed interactive lectures, workshops, group activities, and output presentations with technical critiquing. On the second day, participants explored the importance of process documentation, key elements of effective documentation, and strategies for developing clear and concise reports. These sessions were complemented by hands-on exercises and the production of draft documentation reports for various FishCoRe units, which were reviewed by a technical panel.
The third day focused on techniques and tools for documentation, as well as maintaining and updating documentation systems. Mr. Canabe also presented the Knowledge Management Plan (2025–2029), showing the KM process flow and outlining the remaining KM activities. A hands-on session on the KM Databank in Google Sites followed, where participants practiced uploading and downloading knowledge materials. Each operational unit was provided with a dedicated page within the site to facilitate easier documentation and collaboration. This internal databank system, exclusive to FishCoRe staff, is designed to be accessible and user friendly, supporting the sharing of relevant project documents, tools, and strategies.
The training concluded with closing remarks from Ms. Jessica Muñoz, Deputy Project Manager, who emphasized the importance of diligence and integrity in documentation work. Certificates were awarded to participants, and final updates were shared by Mr. Nomer Esmero, M&E Specialist, and Mr. Raul dela Cruz, Finance Analyst.
As a next step, the trainees were tasked to upload the major outputs of the training— particularly the Process Documentation Reports of the two RPIUs—to the KM Databank. To ensure consistency and alignment, all submitted forms will be reviewed by specialists at the NPMO.
