The Philippine Fisheries and Coastal Resiliency Project, better known as the FishCoRe Project, successfully conducted the second episode of FishCoRe Talakayan in the municipality of Anda, Bohol on November 6, 2024.
Launched in Lubang, Occidental Mindoro in October 2024, the FishCoRe Talakayan is an IEC activity which aims to effectively introduce the FishCoRe Project and its main components to fisheries stakeholders, and deepen participants’ understanding of the principles of Fisheries Management Areas (FMA) and the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) where the FishCoRe project is anchored. Most importantly, it aims to encourage stakeholders’ active participation and ownership of upcoming and future subprojects in order to ensure long-term sustainability, as well as promote continuous and sustainable economic and ecological development in the fisheries sector in the target FMAs 6 and 9.
The FishCoRe Talakayan in Anda, Bohol was joined by representatives from 15 Local Government Units (LGUs) in the province, along with various fisherfolk associations interested to learn more about the government’s flagship project for the fisheries sector.
In collaboration with the World Bank and led by the Department of Agriculture, through the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA), and National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI), the FishCoRe Project is now on its second year of implementation to provide multiple fisheries interventions and benefit over 1.15 million fisherfolk, small to medium enterprises, other fisheries stakeholders, and residents in coastal communities across 11 regions and 24 provinces in the country.
