DA-BFAR and World Bank officially kicked-off its 2-week support mission for the implementation of the FishCoRe Project. With the promise of continuous progress, the DA-BFAR joined by the World Bank officially started their 2-week mission with a kick-off meeting held on April 15-16 in Quezon City.
The mission aims to review and assess the status of implementation of the sub-projects that have been identified based on the needs of the target beneficiaries. To facilitate this, the DA-BFAR and the World Bank will visit three important locations from the regions of Ilocos, Central Luzon, and Central Visayas covered by the project interventions. The mission will also serve as an avenue to navigate the progress of the bureau’s work and be guided by its partners in implementing the project to the coastal communities.
The meetings – a kick-off meeting back-to-back with a procurement meeting on the next day, were attended by representatives from the World Bank (WB), Special Projects Coordination & Management Assistance(DA-SPCMAD), National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI), the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA), and the French Development Agency (FDA).
The FishCoRe Project serves as one of the lead initiatives of the government in the fishery sector to attain its goal of 100-percent food-fish sufficiency level by 2028, aligned with the plan spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. of modernizing the agri-fisheries industry in order to increase agricultural productivity, lower food cost, ensure food security, and make farming and fisheries a more bankable investment alternative.
